Every year, Canada Post’s elves help Santa answer letters from children across the country, and every letter gets a reply. Kids in Toronto just need to write, address the envelope to the North Pole and drop it in any mailbox. No stamp needed.

The 2026 deadline
Mail your letter by December 9, 2026 for the best chance of a reply before Christmas. Canada Post says it can’t guarantee delivery dates, so earlier is better, especially for families in a hurry to hear back.
How to send a letter to Santa
- Write the letter. Kids can tell Santa about their year, ask questions and add drawings. Canada Post offers printable letter templates for younger and older children on its website.
- Add your return address. This is required. Without it, Santa can’t write back. Include it on the letter itself as well as the envelope.
- Address the envelope to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada.
- Skip the stamp. Letters to Santa mailed within Canada don’t need postage.
- Mail it in any Canada Post mailbox or at a post office counter.
If you have several children, put all their letters in the same envelope.
Letter-writing ideas for kids
Not sure what to write? Kids can:
- Introduce themselves: name, age, where they live and what they love.
- Share something they’re proud of from this year.
- Ask Santa questions: How are the reindeer? What’s the North Pole like in winter?
- Make a short wish list, and maybe add a wish for someone else.
- Draw a picture or add stickers.
- Say thank you and wish Santa and Mrs. Claus a merry Christmas.
Younger children can dictate their letter or draw it, and a grown-up can write the return address.
Make it a family tradition
- Write letters together on a cozy evening in November with hot chocolate.
- Walk to the mailbox together to post them.
- Keep a copy of each year’s letter in a scrapbook; it’s lovely to look back on.
- Count down to the reply with an advent calendar.
