Booking a holiday party in Toronto? The best venues fill their December weekends months ahead, so the sooner you plan, the better. Here’s a guide to the types of venues that work best for Christmas parties in Toronto, with standout examples and tips for getting the date you want.

When to book

  • Fridays and Saturdays in early to mid-December are the most in-demand nights of the year. Book by late summer or early fall if you can.
  • Thursdays, Sunday afternoons and January (“after-the-holidays” parties) are easier to get and often cheaper.
  • Late November dates are a smart option for avoiding December pricing.

Types of holiday party venues

Historic and heritage spaces

Toronto’s historic buildings make for memorable parties. Casa Loma, the Gothic Revival castle, hosts private events in its grand rooms and conservatory. The Arcadian Court, a restored 1929 dining hall above Bay Street, and the event spaces in the Distillery Historic District, with brick walls and timber beams, are classic choices.

Best for: larger company parties and formal dinners.

Breweries and distilleries

Breweries like Steam Whistle, in a historic railway roundhouse beside the CN Tower, offer relaxed spaces with craft beer and room for a crowd.

Best for: casual team parties.

Private dining rooms

Many restaurants offer private or semi-private rooms for groups of 10 to 50, often with set holiday menus. Downtown, King West, Yorkville and the Distillery District have the most options.

Best for: small teams, client dinners and family gatherings.

Hotels

Downtown hotels offer all-inclusive packages with catering, AV and accommodation for out-of-town guests, and their ballrooms suit the biggest parties. See best hotels for Christmas in Toronto.

Activity venues

Combine the party with an activity: bowling and arcade bars, axe throwing, escape rooms, cooking classes or improv workshops. Office Christmas party ideas

Attractions after hours

Attractions like Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada host private evening events, a guaranteed conversation starter.

Pop-up bars

For a casual group night out, the Miracle Christmas bars on Bloor Street and at Harbourfront take reservations from November 2. Christmas pop-up bars

Checklist for booking

  • Guest count and budget per head
  • Accessibility and TTC access
  • Food, dietary needs and drink packages (Ontario venues must serve alcohol under a licence)
  • AV, music and space for speeches
  • Coat check (essential in a Toronto December)
  • Deposit, cancellation policy and minimum spend

Budget guide

Every venue prices differently, but these are the main cost drivers to ask about:

  • Room fee or food-and-beverage minimum: the amount you must spend to book the space.
  • Per-person catering cost, which varies with plated dinners, buffets or cocktail-style food stations.
  • Bar: open bar, drink tickets or cash bar.
  • Service charge and taxes: often 18% or more on top, plus 13% HST in Ontario.
  • Extras: AV, decor, coat check, security and late-night fees.

Get every quote in writing, and ask what’s included before comparing venues.

Venues by area

  • Downtown and the Financial District: hotels and restaurant event spaces, all near the PATH and Union Station.
  • King West and the Entertainment District: lively restaurants with private rooms, close to theatres.
  • The Distillery District: heritage brick buildings, perfect with a visit to the Distillery Winter Village.
  • The waterfront: event spaces with lake views, and harbour cruise charters. Holiday harbour cruises
  • Midtown and Yorkville: upscale restaurants and hotel lounges for smaller groups. Yorkville at Christmas

Ideas for a memorable party

  • Add a short activity before dinner: a group skate, a gingerbread contest or a cooking class.
  • Hire a photo booth with festive props.
  • Book a band or a DJ, or a carolling group for the first hour.
  • Plan a toy or food drive so the party gives back. Volunteering at Christmas

Holiday party venues: FAQ

How far ahead should I book a Christmas party venue in Toronto? For a December Friday or Saturday, book by late summer or early fall. Weeknights and January can often be booked a few weeks ahead.

What’s the cheapest night for a holiday party? Usually Monday to Wednesday, or a lunch event.
